Civil Engineering

Civil engineering is a professional engineering discipline that deals with the design, construction and maintenance of the physical and naturally built environment. Civil engineering is the oldest engineering discipline after military engineering, and it was defined to distinguish non-military engineering from military engineering.

It is traditionally broken into several sub-disciplines including environmental engineering, geotechnical engineering, structural engineering, transportation engineering, municipal or urban engineering, water resources engineering, materials engineering, coastal engineering, surveying, and construction engineering. Civil engineering takes place on all levels: in the public sector from municipal through to national governments, and in the private sector from individual homeowners through to international companies.

Commercial Subdivisions

A commercial subdivision is the division of a lot or parcel of land into two or more lots, sites, or other divisions of land for the purpose of creating a development for commercial or business related purposes with a building(s) constructed on the land or lot. This includes resubdivision and, when appropriate to the context, relates to the process of subdividing or to the land or territory subdivided. This applies to but not limited to: Business Parks, Office Buildings, Retail Parks, Shopping Malls/Districts, Municipalities, Private Businesses, and Warehouse Districts

Residential Subdivisions

A residential subdivision is the division of a lot or parcel of land into two or more lots, sites, or other divisions of land for the purpose of creating a development for residential purposes with houses constructed on each lot. This includes resubdivision and, when appropriate to the context, relates to the process of subdividing or to the land or territory subdivided.

Sanitary Sewer Design

As an expert in the field, AM Engineering has been providing intelligent and affordably engineered sanitary sewer designs for over twenty-five (25) years. From low-pressure pipe septic systems to decentralized treatment systems, our services are all encompassing, providing sanitary sewer designs for single residences, subdivisions, and multi-use large-scale commercial developments.

Storm Water Design

Storm Water Design is managing the quantity and quality of stormwater and is often used to refer to both structural or engineered control devices and systems (e.g. retention ponds) to treat polluted stormwater, as well as operational or procedural practices.

There are many forms of stormwater design including:

  • Manage stormwater to control flooding and erosion
  • Manage and control hazardous materials to prevent release of pollutants into the environment (source control)
  • Plan and construct stormwater systems so contaminants are removed before they pollute surface waters or groundwater resources
  • Acquire and protect natural waterways where they still exist or can be rehabilitated
  • Build “soft” structures such as ponds, swales or wetlands to work with existing or “hard” drainage structures, such as pipes and concrete channels
  • Revise current stormwater regulations to address comprehensive stormwater needs
  • Enhance and enforce existing ordinances to make sure property owners consider the effects of stormwater before, during and after development of their land
  • Plan carefully to create solutions before problems become too great

AM Engineering, Inc. has completed a multitude of drainage projects not only related to the land development but also to specific municipal drainage improvements.  Contact us today for more information on how AM Engineering, Inc. can assist in your next project.

Water Distributing Systems Design

In a water distribution system (WDS), water is distributed from reservoirs or aqueducts to private or public consumers. The system is part of the water supply network that delivers potable water from a treatment plant or well to consumers in order to meet the needs of homes, businesses, industries, and fire departments. In modern systems, the primary objective is the reduction of water distribution costs through the use of linear or nonlinear optimization schemes, which are limited by the system size, the number of constraints, and the number of loading conditions.
